Marble Guard Protector SB (solvent base) works best on polished marble (shiny, high gloss finish); Marble Guard Protector SB penetrates deeper into the pores of polished marble than Marble Guard Protector WB. Why marble needs sealing in the first place

Marble looks solid but it is porous. Oils, wine, coffee, cooking splatter and pigmented liquids soak into those pores and become stains that no amount of surface cleaning will lift. A penetrating sealer like Marble Guard Protector fills the pore structure so spills sit on the surface long enough for you to notice and wipe them up. Worth being clear about what sealing does not do: it does not stop etching. Etching is acid chemically damaging the polished surface, and no sealer prevents it. Sealing is about stains; Marble Gloss Restorer is about etch marks.

Solvent base or water base?

This is the solvent base version. Solvent carriers generally penetrate denser stone more readily, which makes them a good choice for tight, low absorbency marble and for exterior or high traffic work. Water base versions are lower odour and easier to work with indoors. Both leave the same kind of invisible penetrating protection. If you are unsure, the water base option is the more forgiving choice for a first time user working in a bathroom.

How to apply Marble Guard Protector

The surface must be clean, dry and free of any old coating – clean it first with NeutraSheen for Marble and let it dry completely, because sealing a damp or dirty surface traps the problem underneath. Apply evenly, allow the product the dwell time it needs to soak in, then wipe away all excess before it dries. Excess left to dry on the surface is the single most common mistake and leaves a hazy residue.

Work in a well ventilated space, test an inconspicuous area first, and give the sealer time to cure before putting the surface back into heavy use.

How do I know if my marble needs resealing? Put a few drops of water on it. If the stone darkens within a few minutes, it is absorbing and it is time to reseal.

Will it change the look of the stone? A penetrating sealer is designed to be invisible and should not alter colour or gloss.

Does it work on other stone? Yes – it also works as a granite sealer and on limestone and travertine.

Will it stop etching? No. Nothing prevents acid etching on marble. Sealing protects against staining.
