Why microfiber floor pads matter for polished stone

Polished marble and granite scratch more easily than most people expect – not from dramatic impacts, but from ordinary dust and grit getting dragged across the surface under a stiff mop or paper towel. Microfiber floor pads use thousands of fine synthetic fibers that trap dust and grime instead of pushing it around, so day-to-day cleaning doesn’t slowly dull a polish you paid to have restored.

What makes microfiber different

Cotton and standard mop heads move debris across the floor, which is exactly what scratches a polished surface over time. The fine fiber structure in microfiber floor pads picks particles up and holds them, which is why the same cleaning motion that would scratch stone with a regular mop is safe with these pads.

Using microfiber floor pads

Use dry for daily dust mopping, or lightly dampened with a marble- or granite-safe cleaner for a deeper clean. Shake out or vacuum the pad periodically during use on dusty floors so it keeps trapping debris instead of just moving it around once it’s saturated.

Caring for the pads

Microfiber floor pads are machine washable – skip fabric softener, which coats the fibers and reduces how well they trap dust, and avoid high heat drying, which can damage the fiber structure. Washed and air-dried, a good pair lasts through hundreds of uses.

Microfiber floor pads questions we get asked

Do these work on all flooring? Yes – they’re gentle enough for polished stone and tile, and effective on any hard floor.

How many pads come in a pair? Two pads, so you can rotate one in while the other is being washed.

Can I use fabric softener when washing them? Best to skip it – it coats the fibers and reduces their ability to trap dust.

Pairing microfiber floor pads with the rest of your routine

Attach a pad to our aluminum telescopic pole for stand-up dust mopping, and rinse pads out easily in our rolling cleaning bucket when you’re doing a wet pass instead of a dry one.

Why microfiber floor pads suit polished stone

Polished marble and granite are scratched by the grit you walk in, not by the mop. A cotton or string mop pushes that grit around the floor and grinds it into the finish. Microfiber floor pads work differently – the split fibers pull fine particles up into the pad and hold them there until you wash it out.

That is also why these pads are sold as a pair. One goes on the floor while the other is in the wash, so you are never tempted to keep using a pad that is already loaded with dirt.

Dry dusting and damp mopping

Use a dry pad first to lift loose grit off the floor before any liquid touches it. Damp mopping over unswept grit is what puts the fine swirl marks into a polished finish.

For the damp pass, wring the pad out well – stone floors want a barely-damp pad rather than a wet one, and standing water works its way into grout lines and the edges of stone tile. Pair the pads with a neutral pH stone cleaner rather than a general purpose floor cleaner; acidic cleaners will dull marble and travertine over time no matter how good the mop is.

Washing and replacing them

Machine wash the pads in warm water with regular detergent and no fabric softener. Softener coats the fibers and is the single most common reason a microfiber pad stops picking anything up. Skip the dryer sheet for the same reason, and replace a pad once the surface feels slick rather than grabby.
