What a granite buffer kit is really fixing

Granite is dense, but daily wiping and cleaning still leave behind a fine layer of residue and micro-scratching that dulls its natural shine over time. Once that dullness has built up over years, a light hand polish usually isn’t enough to cut through it. A granite buffer kit pairs a mechanical buffer with the right compounds so the surface gets leveled and re-polished, not just wiped over.

Why the buffer matters

Our granite care kit is built for countertops that are already in good shape and just need upkeep. This granite buffer kit is for the opposite situation – visible dullness or a countertop that’s never been properly restored. The buffer provides consistent, even pressure and speed that hand polishing can’t match.

Working through the granite buffer kit

Clean the surface fully first so grit doesn’t get ground into the stone during buffing. Apply the polishing compound and work it in sections with the buffer at a low-to-medium speed, checking your progress as you go. Once the surface is uniformly glossy, finish with the sealer – buffing opens the stone’s surface slightly, so sealing right after locks in the result.

Keeping the results after buffing

Switch to a pH-neutral, granite-safe cleaner for regular wiping. Wipe up oil and acidic spills promptly, use coasters and trivets, and plan on a light maintenance pass every 6-12 months rather than waiting for visible dullness to build up again.
