Why the abrasive grout cleaner 8 oz works where sprays do not
Kitchen grease is not like other soil. It is not water soluble, it does not rinse away, and it builds into a film that traps dust, food and smoke residue, getting darker every month. Spray cleaners smear it. Steam softens it and then it re-sets. What actually removes it is mechanical: a fine abrasive grout cleaner that lifts the film off without cutting into the tile or the grout underneath.
Cement grout makes the problem worse, because it is porous and slightly soft, so soil works down into the surface rather than sitting on it. That is why scrubbing with a brush and a household spray gets you a cleaner-looking grout line for about a week.
Using the grout cleaner 8 oz with Grout Guard Restorer
The two are designed as a pair. Grout Guard Restorer breaks the soil down; the grout cleaner 8 oz carries it off the surface. Used together the results are markedly better than either on its own, which is why professionals buy them as a set.
How to use it
Work a small area at a time rather than covering a whole floor at once, and keep the surface wet while you work. Let the product do the job instead of leaning on it – contact and patience matter more than pressure. Rinse thoroughly afterwards so nothing is left behind.
Test an inconspicuous corner first, especially on a finish you are unsure about. The grout cleaner 8 oz is for hard tile and cement grout. On marble, limestone or travertine use our marble grout range instead, because soft stone needs gentler chemistry.
Seal it, or you will be back
Once grout is genuinely clean, seal it. Porous grout is why the grease got in, and sealing is what stops the cycle restarting. Clean grout left unsealed looks the same again within a year.
After that, routine cleaning with a pH neutral cleaner keeps it there. Harsh degreasers strip sealer and put you back at the start – the Natural Stone Institute makes the same recommendation about neutral cleaners.
Grout cleaner 8 oz questions we get asked
Will it scratch my tile? The abrasive is fine and made for the job, but test an inconspicuous area first.
Can I use it on marble? No. Marble and other soft stone need our marble range.
Is 8 oz enough? A little goes a long way. This size suits a bathroom or a kitchen backsplash; step up to 16 oz for a whole floor.
Do I need the restorer too? They work together and the results are considerably better as a pair.

Lea Justice –
I recently used your grout cleaner products, The Restorer and the Grease and Grime Buster. Unbelievable!
When we remodeled our kitchen we used tile on our counter tops but never really thought to use a dark color grout. The off white that we used has become terribly stained in certain areas. Spilling coffee will really do the trick. I have tried a number or products and nothing has worked. I felt doomed to live with brown grout. I saw the article in Martha Stewart Living and clipped out the information on your company and the products you offered.
I am extremely happy with your product and would recommend it to everyone with off colored grout.
