Why the Ultimate Polishing Pads matter as much as the polish
People tend to think of the polishing compound as the product and the pad as an accessory. In practice the pad does at least half the work. It is what holds the slurry against the stone, what carries the compound evenly across the surface, and what determines whether you get a uniform gloss or a patchy one. A tired, clogged or glazed pad will make even a good compound look like it is not working.
When to replace your polishing pads
Replace a pad when it stops holding slurry the way it used to, when the face has hardened or glazed over, or when you find yourself working an area far longer than it used to take. Pads are consumable by design. Swapping in a fresh one is almost always faster and cheaper than fighting a worn one for another twenty minutes.
Buying five at a time means you are not stopping a job halfway through to order more, and you can keep one pad for aggressive first passes and a cleaner one for the final gloss.
What these Ultimate Polishing Pads are used with
They pair with Marble Gloss Restorer for removing etch marks and restoring shine on polished marble, limestone and travertine. Mix the compound with a little water to a slurry, place the pad over it, and work in a steady side to side motion, keeping the slurry wet the whole time. Rinse the area thoroughly afterwards. Once the gloss is back, finish with Marble Polish and Protector, and clean routinely with NeutraSheen for Marble. The Natural Stone Institute has general stone care guidance worth reading before you start.
Ultimate Polishing Pads questions we get asked
Do I need a machine to use them? A hand held rotary buffer or floor buffer is fastest, but plenty of customers use pads by hand with good results.
Can I wash and reuse them? Rinse them out thoroughly after each use and let them dry. They will last considerably longer that way.
How many will one job take? A single vanity may take one. A full kitchen or a shower will usually use more than one.
Are these the same pads that come in the kits? Yes – identical, just sold as a five pack replacement.
Looking after your pads between jobs
Rinse each pad thoroughly under clean running water as soon as you finish, before any compound has a chance to dry into the fibres. Work the water through with your fingers until it runs clear, squeeze out the excess and let the pad air dry completely before storing it. Pads put away damp will sour, and pads put away loaded with dried compound will glaze over and never work properly again. Store them flat and dry, out of direct sunlight. Treated well, a pad will see several jobs; treated badly, it will be useless after one.
A note on working by hand
If you are polishing by hand rather than with a machine, expect to work harder and longer for the same result, and keep the slurry wet throughout – a drying slurry stops cutting and starts smearing. Many customers report excellent results this way on vanities and table tops.

Dan Flaherty Paul –
I just wanted to send you some pictures of the final results and thank you for your consultation and overall absolutely amazing products. I built our home 5 years ago and imported the travertine from FL, fully knowing that the area of NC I now live in did not have contractors that understood how to finish and maintain marble. I always wanted a polished floor, but lived with the honed look.
After 20hrs or so of polishing, I have the floor I always pictured in my mind. It feels as if we are walking on jelly it is so smooth, even after cleaning and sealing with your products.
I plan on writing a very positive review on Amazon as that is where I found your products.
Thank you and your company for being the expert for consumers in the industry.
